As many of you know, I started my writing career a few years ago by entering a poetry competition run by a publishing house I saw advertised on Facebook. The challenge was to write a poem every day for 21 days and, if your poems were selected by the publishers, they were published as a book.
As it was January at the time, I thought I'd make it a New Year's resolution and entered the competition, choosing to write every day about my life - the challenges of parenthood, the shock of a cheating spouse, the shame of a break-up, as well as my wonderful extended family. After the 21 days were up, I sent off my poems, and was happy that I'd done something I'd always dreamed of, but hadn't had the courage to actually do. Imagine my surprise when I had an email from the publishing house, informing me that my poems were about to be put into a paperback book - something I'm still proud of today.
After that ego boost, I decided to look into platforms that I could add my writing to. At the time, I was after validation and criticism, rather than a wage, and so decided to open a Wattpad account, which I still have to this day.
However, after a few years of publishing my books for free on Wattpad, I felt that the platform wasn't for me (I have made another post about my reasons for feeling this way, which you can read here ->https://authorjaympalmer.com/blog/the-wattpad-scammers-strike-again) and so began the search for a platform where I could be paid for what I loved to do. So many other platforms asked for the rights to my stories, and offered virtually pennies in return for them.
And then I came across Weink. They were a very new platform when I opened an account with them three years ago, and in comparison to the big boys of the self-publishing industry, they still are fairly new. However, I could self-publish my books with them, get paid to do so, and keep the rights to my work. For me, it was a win.
I now have eight books on Weink (with the ninth being added now), and I'm also an ambassador for the platform. I love being part of a company that's trying to do good in the world. No matter if you land on the Weink as a reader or a writer, you are looked after - they pay all authors and treat their readers with respect.
So why not give them a try?
