After delisting my books in April following my departure from Draft2Digital, I had been expecting the royalties from the books I'd taken down to dwindle to nothing this month.

So, imagine my surprise when I had yet another royalty payment from D2D this week. I hadn't been expecting it at all and, judging by the amount, it looked as though someone had bought the print version of one of my books.

As I move away from Wattpad, I thought it a good idea to add a book to my profile there, in which it states where to find my books. I also included book covers and the blurb for each story, with the intent of providing readers enough info to wet their bookish appetite.

However, whilst adding information to this book, Wattpad has decided to mark the book as 'Mature' despite it being just an informative book.

There were no mature themes at all in it - it was just a few pages of book blurbs and...

With me moving many of my books onto Weink for readers to binge for free, I'm also making the most of the platform's bonus chapter content.

Bonus chapters can be added to any book, and are available to read by Weink+ subscribers only. The only stipulation is that authors must not make bonus chapters part of the main story. Bonus chapters are what they say they are - just bonus content.

Yep, the scammers are back ... and they seem more desperate than ever!

Yesterday, I had quite a few notifications from Wattpad, telling me that I'd been tagged in posts. Curious, I opened the app to see what I'd been tagged in ... and was met with exasperation, frustration and a whole lot of scammers.

Scammers had created quite a number of false Wattpad accounts and had tagged genuine users in a post saying that they were selected for a 'mandatory security refresh' and that the users must...

... and I love seeing authors from the LGBTQ+ community being celebrated on Bookstagram!

So many bookish creators are making a point of reading, buying and reviewing books by LGBTQ+ authors and it warms my heart. These wonderful humans are bucking trends and making a stand against the narrow minded people who have been trying to cancel Pride Month. I've seen creators call out bigots, name and shame them, and then carry on like it's an average Tuesday.

It makes me proud to be a member of both...

As a queer writer, Pride month is something I have and will always fully support. Our brothers and sisters in the LGBTQ+ community need as many allies as possible to help beat the discrimination and spite against them.

All of my pages, whether it's Instagram, BlueSky, this website or writing platforms, are completely safe spaces and I work hard to pull out the weeds that leave their hate. I won't stand for it. And I won't have it affect anyone needing a safe space, if only for a few seconds....

After I received the email this morning, I, like many authors, have made the decision to withdraw all of my books from the Draft2Digital platform.

The introduction of a 'maintenance fee' as well as an annual fee if your books earn you less than $100 per year is ridiculous.

I stuck it out with them when they made changes to the withdrawal threshold, effectively making it much more difficult to make a withdrawal.

But these new changes will target budding authors, and that just ain't okay.

I've been on Substack a while now - since April last year, to be more precise. And while I love using it as a newsletter, I'm still unsure on the 'paid' aspect. Yeah, I love earning money (who doesn't?) and using this feature as a way to supplement my meagre author wage is great. Maybe I need to write more mini-fics and bonus chapters for it. What are your thoughts on this?

As most of you know, I am against AI being used in a creative way, in that I think it's immoral for AI to be used in creative spaces. It takes jobs away from humans. Amazing artists are being forced to either raise their prices or give all together because of AI. Writers are being falsely accused of using AI whenever they try out a new writing style or if they use the em dash (I use em dashes and will not stop using them either!).

As it's a Bank Holiday here in England, my son decided he was taking me to play mini golf over at The Birdie Bunker and I won! (makes a change!). Of course, we had to have a coffee and cake afterwards

The Birdie Bunker is located in the Midlands, England, and is very family friendly, accessible and loads of fun! The staff are amazing and nothing is too much trouble.

I would seriously recommend them!

Yep, it's that time of the year where I close my laptop for a few weeks and enjoy some time with my friends and family, and go travelling.
