As most of you know, I am against AI being used in a creative way, in that I think it's immoral for AI to be used in creative spaces. It takes jobs away from humans. Amazing artists are being forced to either raise their prices or give all together because of AI. Writers are being falsely accused of using AI whenever they try out a new writing style or if they use the em dash (I use em dashes and will not stop using them either!).
An indie author who I follow on social media was recently accused of using AI in her latest book. The reviewer accused her of using AI to write the book for her because this particular author's style had changed. I've read that book and, while I can see that the author has indeed changed her style, had the reviewer considered that the author had maybe been able to afford the skills of an experienced editor this time? Or a proofreader? It's the job of these professionals to work with the author and advise on what works and what doesn't.
Maybe this author's style had changed as she'd grown into her craft. The more experienced she becomes, the more her writing will change.
But it doesn't stop there.
I came across an advert on Facebook from a professional who had created a system on how to use social media to reach more readers. Curious, I took a closer look. And couldn't believe it.
This professional was giving authors the use of prompts to use each day to feed into an AI tool such as CoPilot or ChatGPT and AI comes up with a caption and graphic to use. To make matters worse, authors were being charged almost $400 dollars for this 'system' ... and with no refunds because it's available immediately. Makes no sense.
My point is ... I'm against AI being used to cheat humans in this way. Yes, AI does have amazing potential in medicine and science, but it really doesn't have a place in creative spaces. Most people use art as an outlet, or as a healing tool. They don't want to be cheated by something that had, up until now, been helping them.
To professional trying to sell me a 'system' like the above - go away. To any 'artist' who wants to charge me to 'draw' my characters using AI - don't bother reaching out to me. To any author using AI to 'write' a book - I won't buy it.
I prefer human art, human words, human experience. It's been earned. It's been worked hard for. The artist has probably cried, worried and sweated for that piece of art. And for that, I would happily pay them.
