After delisting my books in April following my departure from Draft2Digital, I had been expecting the royalties from the books I'd taken down to dwindle to nothing this month.
So, imagine my surprise when I had yet another royalty payment from D2D this week. I hadn't been expecting it at all and, judging by the amount, it looked as though someone had bought the print version of one of my books.
Confused, I did a little digging and discovered that Whisper Of The Wolf and Santa Baby were both still for sale on Amazon! And not the ebook version, but the printed copy.
I raised my concerns with Draft2Digital, who simply sent me a generic email that basically told me that it was Amazon's fault that they hadn't listened to D2D's orders. So, I raised a dispute with Amazon, who are sending me on the run around - basically, they don't want to delist my books. Why, I don't know. I pulled my books from the platform for a reason and don't wish any of my work to be available on Amazon.
So now, I'm deep in the trenches of digging out and sending all kinds of documents to Amazon.
To any new authors out there, please be aware of this. I've heard many Amazon horror stories from fellow authors and was determined not to deal with them directly, hence why I used Draft2Digital to handle the distribution side of my books. However, even though I hadn't dealt with them directly, I'm having to now as they didn't pay attention to the initial orders given.
It makes me wonder how much more difficult they would make it for authors who were exclusive to their platform?
